              what is a hamstring?
Hamstring strains are the common and painful condition more common in players including runners, skaters, and footballers, soccer, and basketball players.
But what is a hamstring? It isn't actually a single ''string of muscle.'' It's a group of three muscles that run along the back of your thigh. These muscles allow you to bend your leg at the knee joint.
During a hamstring strain, these muscles get overloaded. Hamstring strain happen during activities that involve running and jumping or sudden stop and start to run but A hamstring pain start is usually either an injury to the hamstring muscles, or is being referred from somewhere else.

Due to Hamstring strain may be appear of Posterior thigh compartment syndrome

A compartment syndrome occurs when the muscle swells up too big area that surrounds it causing pressure and pain. Symptoms include a dull pain in the back of the thigh, cramp and weakness future showing.
Hamstring strain may be cause of Upper hamstring tendinopathy
Hamstring tendinitis can occur at the origin of the hamstring muscles at the ischial tuberosity. Symptoms include tenderness and swalling of the tendon at the site of pain and may be very similar to ischial bursitis.
Hamstring strain is also happen more likely if:
  • You don't warm up before exercising.
  • The muscles in the front of your thigh (the quadriceps) are tight.
  • If the gluteus muscles are weak, that is why hamstrings can be over loaded and become strained.
Mild hamstring strains may not hurt too much. But acute strains can be agonizing, making it impossible to walk or even stand.
Other possible symptoms of a hamstring strain are:
  • Sudden and severe pain during exercises,
  • Pain in the back of the thigh and lower buttock when walking, straightening the leg, or bending over.
  • Muscles tenderness
Luckily, minor to moderate hamstring strains usually heal up naturally. You just need to give them rest some time.
Know about do or don’t....
Rest the leg. Avoid weight bearing work.If the pain is severe, you may need crutches until pain goes away. Ask your doctor or physical therapist if they're needed.
  • Use Ice pack to reduce pain and swelling. Do it for 20-30 minutes.
  • Use an elastic bandage around the leg to keep down swelling.
  • Elevate your leg on a pillow when you're sitting or lying down.
  • Take anti-inflammatory painkillers will help to reduce pain and swelling. However, these drugs may have side effects, unless your doctor specifically says otherwise don’t take.
  • Practice stretching and strengthening exercises if your doctor/physical therapist recommends them. This exercise is one way to protect against hamstring strain.
In severe cases where the muscle is torn, you may need surgery. The surgeon will repair the muscles and reattach them.

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy is the use of electricity as a form of treatment for soft tissue injuries. I’m explaining some of the various forms of electrotherapy treatment below.
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a method of providing pain relief. As the name suggests, it involves the application of electrical current to the affected area. This is achieved via a number of electrodes that can be fixed to the skin.
Ultrasound has been used as a treatment modality for sports injuries by therapists.
Pulsed short wave diathermy is a form of electrotherapy, similar to Ultrasound. It is sometimes also called pulsed electromagnetic energy.
